Community Representation
KI's approach is guided by representatives of the community through the KI Community Representatives and Project Champion Forum.
Each project has a Community Representative and Project Champion to represent the views of local people and give expert advice in their project area.
They also sit on Project Liaison Groups designed to make sure each of the projects work well together and benefit the people of Kirkintilloch. These are:
-
Communication and Publicity
-
Town Centre Vitality
-
Southbank Development
-
Business Plan
-
Transport Infrastructure Masterplan
One of the objectives of the Forum is to make sure the KI projects build on Kirkintilloch's historical and industrial heritage. This is clearly reflected in the Forum's statement of objectives for development of the Town Centre.

KI Community Representatives and Project Champions Forum Town Centre Objective
The Kirkintilloch's Initiative Community Representative and Project Champion Forum would like to see a comprehensive plan for the future enhancement of Kirkintilloch Town Centre which builds on the towns' loyal customer base and provides new attractions for the expanding catchment of the town. The future prosperity of the town centre depends on the successful exploitation of its unique features such as its Roman Heritage, its unique location adjacent to the Forth & Clyde Canal and its industrial history particularly that associated with boat building and iron foundations.
Key features of the plan will include a comprehensive marketing strategy based on an appropriate image, enhancement of the streetscape and expansion of the services on offer through the promotion of tourism and events. Key improvements will include better provision for pedestrians, improvements to access including parking and the creation of a civic space. The Forum recognises that investment funds will be limited and considers it important that priorities are agreed by all parties with an interest in the future of the town centre and that the available investment is used to enhance the impacts of planned works such as the Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre, the Southbank Canal Basin and the Kirkintilloch Arts & Cultural Centre.
