TEMPORARY TRAFFIC LIGHTS TO BE IN USE AT LINDSAYBEG ROAD
15 Jun 2009
To allow for the construction of the Kirkintilloch Link Road to progress, excavation of earth cuttings and deposition of suitable material in the road embankment have to take place with re-usable materials from south of Lindsaybeg Road being placed at north Lindsaybeg Road. These works on the Link Road will commence in the Claddens Estate area on 15 June. In order to keep disruption to traffic flow, at Lindsaybeg Road, to a minimum the contractors have agreed with East Dunbartonshire Council to place temporary traffic lights at Lindsaybeg Road for approximately four months.
The traffic lights will allow trucks travelling across the road to move along more efficiently.
The traffic lights will be manually controlled changing only during periods of earth shifting works and it is anticipated that traffic on Lindsaybeg Road will be stopped for approximately 30 seconds once every five minutes.
The traffic lights will be in operation from 8am – 8pm on Monday to Friday and 8am-5pm on Saturdays. Out with working hours the traffic lights will be switched off so that traffic can flow unimpeded on Lindsaybeg Road.
Following completion of the earthworks movement, residents will be updated of other local traffic management plans for the construction of the new Lindsaybeg Road roundabout.
The Kirkintilloch Link Road lies at the heart of a £56 million regeneration programme being taken forward by Kirkintilloch’s Initiative (KI), a partnership between East Dunbartonshire Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. When complete it will provide a direct and easily accessible route connecting Kirkintilloch, Lenzie and the surrounding areas to the national motorway system.
Duncan Hamilton, KI Project Director apologises for the inconvenience the earthworks may cause to local residents, he explains:
“We apologise for any disruption that these necessary earth works may cause but we’re asking people to bear with us. We reassure residents and road users that disruption will be kept to a minimum and hope to complete the works as soon as possible.”
