Kirkintilloch’s Initiative – new phase begins
14 Jan 2005
Work starts this week on the implementation of Kirkintilloch’s Initiative’s, £56 million regeneration package. The move follows approval of the plans by East Dunbartonshire Council in June 2004. Community representatives and project champions have now held their first meeting with Kirkintilloch’s Initiative to discuss how they will take the plans forward and transform the vision for Kirkintilloch into bricks and mortar. The project teams will play a vital role in the development of the plans making sure that work is carried out and on time. And they will continue to play an important role in the community listening and responding to the people to deliver projects that will benefit everybody.
Praising the work of the project teams Council Leader, John Morrison said:
“The involvement of community representatives and champions is what has helped to keep Kirkintilloch’s Initiative alive. The council is committed to regenerating the area through the KI partnership and we look forward to delivering the projects with the reps and champions.”
Derrick Milligan, Community Representative and Vice Chair of Kirkintilloch’s Initiative, said:
“Despite some difficult times over the last year the Community Reps and the Project champions have continued to give their valuable input and support to the Initiative and this should be fully recognised at this stage. They now look forward to seeing the various facilities being delivered for the people they represent.”
The first of the projects of Kirkintilloch’s Initiative will get underway at the end of this year with the contract being let for development of the Leisure Centre, which is due to be completed by 2007.
