Residents offered chance of sneak preview at Leisure Centre
20 Jun 2007
Local residents living close to the brand new Leisure Centre are being offered a preview of the new facility ahead of the public opening on 21 July to thank them for their patience during its construction.
They will be among some of the first to see the great new facilities on offer including a 25 metre six-lane swimming pool, fully equipped Club Max gym, sports hall, four external 5-aside football pitches and all weather tennis courts.
KI Project Director Duncan Hamilton felt it was important for KI to show their appreciation to local residents after more than a year of construction.
“The local residents were extremely cooperative during the construction period. KI, EDC Leisure Services and Barr Construction want to thank everyone for being so patient by offering them this sneak preview. Now we can all look forward to experiencing the first class facilities this new centre has to offer, in a few weeks.”
Arrangements are being made for the residents of the Whitegates area to have a guided tour on Saturday 7 July 2007 between 12.00 noon and 3.00pm. Tours will start on the hour at 12.00noon, 1.00pm and 2.00pm.
Kirkintilloch’s Initaitive (KI) is anticipating a high number of visitors to the leisure centre once it opens. They have been working closely with the council to put in a place a traffic management scheme to deal with a higher number of visitors than normal during the first few weeks. They are confident these plans will minimise any potential disruption for local people.
The improved access arrangements form part of a wider transport improvement plan for Kirkintilloch. Work is currently being carried out at the Gallowhill road junction to add a filter lane to improve the traffic flow. Further improvements are planned at Monklands Avenue and Lenzie Road.
Whitegate’s residents will receive a letter of invitation for a guided tour directly from KI. Alternatively, they can contact Sandra Adams, Project Organiser for KI, on 0141 578 8272 to book a time. Visitors please note that entry is by invitation only.
