Kirkintilloch Leisure centre on show

13 Aug 2006

Local representatives will be going on a site visit today (Friday 15 September) at Woodhead Park to see the progress that has been made on development of Kirkintilloch’s state-of-the-art leisure centre.

Kirkintilloch’s Initiative (KI) has invited the local MP, Jo Swinson, along with local councillors, KI project champions and community representatives, to see first hand just how far construction has come and to learn more about the facilities that will be available when doors open to the public next year.

Since demolition of the Woodhead Community Education Centre in February 2006, the appearance of Woodhead Park has changed considerably. The steel frame and roof of the leisure centre now form a focal point in the park. Areas for new football pitches, tennis courts and the car park can also be clearly seen, giving local people an impression of the scale of the whole development.

KI and East Dunbartonshire council recently completed a local consultation for proposals for a draft landscape scheme, which will also help to enhance the appearance of Woodhead Park. Included in the plans are a brand new children’s play area, new civic space for the Gala and other community events, new pathways and walkways and new trees and plants across the park.
