Visit the Arts Centre on a Tour of Kirkintilloch’s Initiative
21 Feb 2005
From today Kirkintilloch residents can now get a sneak preview of the town’s new arts and culture centre. Detailed drawings will be available online at Kirkintilloch’s Initiative’s (KI’s) re-launched website (www.k-eye.co.uk). The website which features an interactive map and image gallery marks the new phase that KI has entered. The detailed planning application for the arts and culture centre has now been submitted and detailed drawings showing the layout of the facility are now available to the public. The drawings will be put on display soon at an exhibition at William Patrick Library for several weeks.
“The level of detail in these drawings show just how far we have come” said Colin Smith, Project Manager of KI. ”The community has been closely involved in producing plans for a first class facility that will really benefit the people of Kirkintilloch and help to attract new visitors to the area.”
Linked by a bridge to the other side of the canal, the arts and culture centre will offer a range of first-class facilities for theatrical, musical, dance and other performance events. A key attraction of the facility will be a 300 seat theatre that can be used to host a range of public and private events.
Looking forward to the development of the Arts and Culture Centre Reverend Bryce Calder said:
“The creation of this facility will have real benefits for the whole community. We have made plans to develop St David’s Church to offer better facilities for our users. Having a 300 seat theatre just across the canal will really help enhance what we are able to offer.”
Due to be complete by Spring 2007 the arts and culture centre will:
• Provide a space for community workshops and meetings
• Offer a 300 seat theatre, exhibition space bar and kitchen, dance facility, recording studio, committee rooms and dressings rooms
• Offer an ideal venue for wedding ceremonies and receptions
