Discussions with the Scottish Arts Council regarding a potential £1.7M grant for the Kirkintilloch Arts and Cultural Centre continue following our recent submission and presentation. This week the Project Champion and I met with the Chair of the Arts Council Capital Committee and senior SAC project officers. The Arts Council continue to express strong support for the Kirkintilloch Arts and Cultural Centre project and have suggested some ways in which our application can be assisted by the provision of further information. Our discussions centred around how ambitious we intend to be with the proposed programme for the building. The Arts Council is encouraging KI and the Council to develop a programme which is “inspirational” and “transformational”. They have been very complementary about the development work and the extent of community involvement in the process to date. However, they would like us to think a little further into the future now rather than during the detailed design and development period. Work on this will take place over the next couple of months in discussion with the Arts Council.
