Town Centre

Posted on 11 Aug 2008

Monday 21 July to Friday 25 July - I met again this week with a small group of Council officers who are looking at the future of the Town Centre. This group is seeking to develop a master plan which can be implemented over a period of several years. KI’s involvement stems from our remit to encourage economic development and because KI has a lot of inherited knowledge about the Town Centre, how it operates and what level of interest there is from developers in working in the town. It is encouraging to see that the Council, under the direction of the Director – Environment, is bringing together a whole range of different experiences and skills to help put together a practical, deliverable plan for the future of the Town Centre. I have also had some discussions this week about the role which Woodhead Park might play in providing enhanced facilities close to the Town Centre. As part of the work done for the Leisure Centre, KI carried out a local consultation about the future of Woodhead Park. Out of this has come a group of local residents who have now brought forward a proposal for improvement of the park. I think this is very encouraging. The group is now at the stage where it is discussing funding options with a number of organisations including KI and the Council.
