Kirkintilloch Link Road
Posted on 15 Jul 2008
Monday 2 June to Friday 4 July - This diary entry covers a period of 5 weeks, one of which has been a holiday week for me. The diary has fallen behind a little due to the frenzy of activity associated with the Kirkintilloch Link Road contract and getting the Integrated Care Centre construction work up and running.
On 6 June 2008 the preferred contractor, Carillion Construction Ltd was instructed to progress from the preparatory works to the main construction works for the Link Road. This instruction follows a number of weeks of close discussion and negotiations between the various parties who are involved in delivery of this complex project. Everyone involved has had to work very hard to get into a position of being able to proceed, not least because the prospects for investment and business appear to be taking a turn for the worse. However, the key problems have been overcome and work will now progress. Carillion Construction is now refining the programme, establishing a site compound (at Woodilee Road) and organising sub-contractors and supplies for carrying out the work. Work proper is expected to start at the beginning of August with an 18 month construction period.
KI is aware that there is a need for a high level of communication with local residents about the construction works and is working hard on this. Letters inviting comments on the best ways of communicating went out to around 600 addresses in mid-June. Responses at the end of June numbered about 100 which shows that there is a high level of local interest in the Link Road works. These responses will be followed up shortly by the issue of an Information Pack. This will be followed by regular letters and e-mails to local residents to keep them up to date with the planned works.
