Kirkintilloch Town Centre

Posted on 20 Jun 2008

Monday 19 May to Friday 23 May - This week I have been talking to Council officials about how best to assess the impacts of various possible changes to the road network in the Kirkintilloch area. The construction of the Kirkintilloch Link Road will make a significant difference to traffic patterns and opens up a number of opportunities for influencing how and where people travel by car. The Council has been short-listed by Transport Scotland for the second stage of a bidding process which could provide funds for implementing measures aimed at making Kirkintilloch a “Sustainable Travel Town”. KI and the Council are joint funding the development of a mathematical model which can be used to predict how traffic patterns will change as a result of changes to the network. This exercise has now reached the stage where policy options and specific proposals can be tested. Among the many tests which are planned is a review of how traffic conditions would change if parts of the town centre were pedestrianised.
