Kirkintilloch Link Road

Monday 5 May to Friday 9 May - Before works starts properly on the Link Road it is necessary to ensure that all pre-contract information has been gathered. Once the work starts we will have lost any opportunity to record existing conditions. This week I’ve been organising pre-contract surveys, such as house condition surveys and ambient noise surveys. I’ve also put the finishing touches to arrangements for communicating progress to those residents who are likely to be most affected by the works. As soon as the main construction contract is awarded approximately 600 households will receive a letter inviting them to meet with the Design and Construction Team to discuss communication arrangements throughout the contract period. These arrangements will be just one part of our efforts to ensure that good information about the works is available to everyone who wants it.
One incident this week highlighted the need to be able to communicate quickly with local people. On Thursday I was informed that a Contractor employed by Scottish Water to carry out necessary pipe line diversion work had been given permission by the Council’s Roads Service to start work next Monday. This work will require temporary signal control at the only access to a housing area with approximately 150 houses in it (Claddens Estate).
It was important the residents of that area were given this information quickly. KI was able to get advanced notice out by letter to everyone in the estate mainly because we have lists of local addresses easily available. More information about these preparation works can be found under the latest news section on the KI website.
This week I have also spent quite a bit of time dealing with local landowners whose businesses are affected by the road proposals. Our aim here is to ensure that the construction of the road has as little impact as possible on these businesses.
