Southbank Infrastructure

There has been quite a bit of activity on site at Southbank. Canal users and local residents will be seeing a huge amount of progress. The central section of the footbridge over the canal was lifted into place on 28th February. I went along to see the final lift which I found quite impressive. It is surprising how big the steel sections of the bridge are. I understand that the whole bridge was manufactured at a shipyard using expertise gained from shipbuilding. The bridge was then cut into sections for transport and is being reassembled on site. Detailed discussions on the design and landscape proposals for the Southbank Access Road are also continuing.
