Southbank

The development of the Southbank area is taking shape with the marina about half dug out and the steel structures of the surrounding buildings fully erected. These works are expected to be completed around May 2008. In parallel with the development of the area proposals are coming forward for increasing the capacity of the transport infrastructure in the Southbank area. The footbridge linking the north and south banks of the canal is under construction and a planning application has been lodged for a new road which will provide an additional access by linking Lenzie Road and Donaldson Street via a route which runs between the Whitegates Industrial Estate and Eastergreens Avenue. The residents of Eastergreens Avenue are naturally concerned about the impact this new road might have on the amenity of their property. This week I attended a meeting with the residents to discuss the potential impact of the road and the design of possible mitigation measures. I am keen to ensure that the residents are able to influence the design of the boundary between the road and their property. The type of landscape measures which will be put in place is obviously important to the people who live in the area. A further meeting was scheduled to maintain a dialogue on these issues.Read next: Southbank
