Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre
Posted on 20 Apr 2007
Work on the new Leisure Centre is progressing well. This week Barr Construction officially handed the building over to KI. There is a “snagging list” which Barr will take about 2 weeks to complete but officially the building is now substantially complete. KI can now give access to contractors working on behalf of the Council on the internal fit out contracts such as the café and the fitness suite. The Council has also started the recruitment process for the staff who will work in the new Centre. Staff training and familiarisation with the building systems and controls will start shortly. The new play park close to the Leisure Centre was officially opened this week. It is a very attractive feature and certainly seems popular with children and their parents so far. Discussions are taking place aimed at getting the CCTV associated with the Leisure Centre up and running as quickly as possible to minimise problems associated with misuse of the play park. Over the next few weeks a high level of activity will continue on all of the works which need to be completed before the Centre can open. This includes the landscaping, footpaths, road improvements and the internal fit out works. The Council will be making a decision shortly about an opening date when the programme for these works is clearer.
