Liaison meetings

Posted on 3 Nov 2006

A significant part of our job is to keep other organisations that deliver services in Kirkintilloch informed about progress with KI. Doing this properly pays dividends and often results in joint working to a standard that KI could not achieve on its own.

A good example of this is the work that Sandra Adams is doing with the Council’s Active Schools Group to provide all school pupils in the area with information about KI and the Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre. By doing this we hope to encourage young people to take ownership of the new facilities and to make their views known about how we can maximise their appeal to young people.

In a similar vein, I attended a meeting of the East Dunbartonshire Community Health Partnership this week. This is the new formal structure for delivering many of the health services in the area and involves the Council and the NHS working jointly to deliver services where the two organisations have related responsibilities. KI is already involved in delivering a new building for joint occupation by the Council and the NHS and further possible involvement with KI was discussed.

It is always pleasing when other Councils approach you for your views and advice because they feel that you are involved in a project which is seen as good practice. This week I met with senior officials of East Renfrewshire Council who wanted to find out more about KI and how it operates. They feel they have a very similar set of problems in the Barrhead area and potentially the opportunities to promote a similar approach to addressing them.
